MySpace:Why you shouldn’t use it as a blog

Some may say that MySpace qualifies as a good blogging platform.  They also might say because you can change the background that you can customize it in any way you want.  These both are not true.  There are so many differences between a free blogging platform and a blogging platform where you are hosted independently.

First off, MySpace has had numerous security issues in the past.  You can be hacked and spammed to easily.  MySpace has had to make security changes to keep this from happening again including turning off the ability to add third party widgets.  The fact of the matter is that MySpace with it’s enormous user base cannot be customizable.  People can change coding to a program that attacks the site, they can embed illegal content and the list goes on.

Now, if you had your own WordPress(or other blogging software for that matter) installation, you can change the theme as many times as you want.  You can change your header, sidebar, spacing and do much more customization than MySpace would ever be able to make possible.  WordPress also has a great support community and is easy to install.

Now if you are in the financial position where you cannot pay for hosting, you can get hosted on wordpress.com.  They have quite a few different themes to choose from, however you can not customize them for the same security reasons that MySpace has.  Not unless you pay for it that is.  You can customize the CSS(Cascading Style Sheet) for an extra fee.  You can also use a domain with wordpress.com, unlike MySpace.

If you are serious about blogging and want a blog that looks clean and professional I encourage you to buy a hosting plan(cheap and easy to find, I recommend GoDaddy but there are thousands of hosts), and install wordpress.  It is very easy to understand and is customizable by numerous themes.  I wish you good luck and if you have any problems feel free to comment and I will try to do my best to help you out.
